Admissions Requirements
Applications are available at the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions website: http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu. Their contact information is Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions; Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; 18 Bishop Place; New Brunswick, New Jersey 08901-8530; phone 732-932-7711, fax 732-932-8231.
Admissions requirements include current Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (no older than 5 years), 2 copies of official transcripts from all institutions attended, 3 letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. Deadlines are February 1st for fall term admission and November 1st for spring term admission. For more information on Programs, visit the GSE web site: www.gse.rutgers.edu Applicants are advised to arrange for completion of their applications well in advance of the deadline as supporting materials are often delayed.
Criteria for admission emphasize aptitude for graduate study, interpersonal effectiveness, breadth and relevance of experience, and appropriateness of career goals.
The candidate's personal statement and letters of recommendation receive particular attention in the review process. These documents are most useful to the Admissions Committee when they include specific and concrete evidence of effective performance. Three letters of recommendation are desirable, preferably from current or recent employment supervisors and professors who have supervised the applicant's prior academic work.
Due to the great number of applicants each year, the faculty is unable to give pre-admission interviews. Candidates, however, will be notified if the admissions committee decides an interview is necessary in order to obtain additional information. Otherwise, in the interest of equity, no individual appointments will be granted except to clarify requirements and application procedures.
