Admissions Guidelines
Application materials are available from the Office of
Graduate and Professional Admissions, Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey, 18 Bishop Place, New Brunswick,
NJ 08901-8530 (732/932-7711), or on Rutgers’ graduate
admissions web site at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu.
A complete application consists of:
Applications should be filed with the Office of
Graduate and Professional Admissions as early as possible
to meet the deadlines listed in the application materials.
In general, the application deadline for the spring term is
November 1, and for the fall term February 1.
The graduate program in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education conforms to the general Graduate School of Education policies on admissions. All applicants for the Social and Philosophical Foundations programs must submit the following information which is reviewed in reference to the academic aims and criteria of the program.

Undergraduate and graduate transcripts. A 3.0 grade point average at the baccalaureate level is expected for Ed.M. applicants.

At least three letters of recommendation from individuals able to evaluate potential for advanced graduate work and scholarship.

Personal statements expressing the applicant’s intentions for graduate study and their articulation with program purposes and requirements.

Recent Graduate Record Exam scores. A combined verbal and quantitative score of 1000 is expected for Ed.M. applicants.
