Admissions Guidelines
Applications to the five-year certification programs are available at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu and in the Graduate Admissions Office, 18 Bishop Place (732-932-7711). An application should be filed only during or after completion of the introductory course 05:300:200--Exploring Teaching as a Profession. Applications must be filed with the Graduate Admissions Office no later than February 1 of the junior year. Students are admitted only once a year to the five-year program.
The files of applicants to the certification program are acted upon prior to spring break (March) each year.
To be admitted, students must have:
- Completed or be currently enrolled in 05:300:200;
- Declared a major appropriate for the certification sought;
- Completed or be currently enrolled in college-level mathematics;
- Completed approximately 75 credits and be in the junior year;
- Completed the majority of the general education requirements;
- Demonstrated proficiency in written (assessed using applicant’s personal statement) and oral communication (assessed in 05:300:200); and
- Filed a completed admissions application to the Graduate School of Education, including:
- Official transcripts;
- Graduate Record Examination scores (verbal and quantitative);
- Personal statement;
- Three letters of reference (two MUST be from full University faculty members outside the Graduate School of Education); and
- Application fee.
Admission to the program is limited and applied competitively to all of the applicants.
