Transfer of Credits

The Ph.D. program in Education is governed by the policies of the Graduate School – New Brunswick.

Graduate courses completed at other institutions may be accepted for credit towards a doctorate at the university IF they meet three conditions.

  • First, they normally must form part of the student’s field of concentration.
  • Second, the students must have registered in these courses within the preceding six years.
  • Finally, the student must have earned a grade of B or better in these courses.

Graduate credit may not be transferred until12 credits of graduate courses with grades of B or better have been completed in the Graduate School – New Brunswick as a matriculated student. The maximum number of credits that a student may transfer is 50% of the total number of course credits in his or her program. For students in education, the maximum number of credits is 24. The faculty of a graduate program may recommend the transfer of credits earned at a professional or graduate school elsewhere towards a Ph.D. in the Graduate School – New Brunswick.

Credits that Can Not Transfer

  • Credits earned in thesis-related work
  • Coursework done as independent study
  • Course work that was not graded with an A or B.

A transfer of credit form must be completed by the student (available from Ms. Kris Spaventa in R. 106 of the Graduate School of Education or from the Graduate School). Transfers of credit must be approved by the Ph.D. Director, who will also consult with the student's advisor.
