Degree Requirements
Depending on the student’s professional goals one of two areas of concentration can be followed.

I. Administration of Special Education Services (48 credits plus 24 credits of dissertation study)

II. College/University Teaching in Special Education (48 credits plus 24 credits of dissertation study)
Students interested in obtaining the New Jersey Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) certification can take the additional required courses as part of their doctoral program.
No later than the end of the first semester of doctoral studies the student, with the consultation of his/her faculty advisor, must complete the Program of Studies form for doctoral study in the selected area of concentration. The program can be revised, if necessary, at a future time.

V. Dissertation Study (24 credits)
Total Minimum Credits: 72
Note: Students may petition the special education faculty to transfer up to 18 graduate credits of coursework from another higher education institution toward partially fulfilling this requirement. Transfer course credits are not guaranteed and it must be demonstrated that the course meets the requirements of the program. Transfer courses that are used to fulfill special education core program requirements should have content equivalent to these courses. The faculty will review each petition and decide if the coursework taken elsewhere meets the standards of the Ed.D. program.
