Photo of Peter Donnelly“Counselors who deny holding any stereotypes and claim to have a ‘colorblind’ racial perspective will essentially fail the test of credibility with clients who are culturally mistrustful...openness in regard to one’s biases may make the topic of race more accessible in treatment...such self disclosures should not be broadly applied without consideration of individual appropriateness...Counselors should be educated to this fact, to the diverse nature of Black attitudes toward race, and to the array of possible presentations in treatment.”

Title(s): Assistant Professor

Research interests:

My research is dedicated to the study of Black psychology and multicultural counseling competence. Currently, I am focused on the development and evaluation of culture-specific approaches to addressing therapeutic barriers that occur in cross-racial counseling dyads. I am also exploring the role of racial identity in academic achievement.
