Photo of Warren D. Crown "We find ourselves in a new educational era; technological advances have dramatically changed the world in which we live and the life skills needed for success in that world. Today's students need mathematics instruction that focuses less on practice of rote procedures and more on problem solving, logical thinking, and communication."

Research interests:

I work primarily on the creation of mathematics curriculum materials for young children and with the teachers who use them. My efforts focus on experiences that promote active mathematics learning and that stress the importance of concrete and pictorial representations of skills and concepts. The work is published in two forms that complement each other well: major elementary mathematics textbook series and popular educational software programs.
