Research interests:

Transformations in our communicational landscape have changed the way we read and we write. Within literacy education, such areas of research as critical literacy, New Literacy Studies, multiliteracies, and multimodal literacy have fostered a greater awareness and understanding of the implications of these transformations on literacy learning and teaching. Working within these approaches to literacy education, I examine how children and adolescents make meaning in a variety of modes at school, at home, and out in the community. In my work, I look at the texts children, youth, and adults create and read to illustrate how shifts in our communicational landscape impact on teaching, learning, and curriculum. Identity and the role of identity feature prominently in such work and how texts bear traces of identity which has implications for theory, policy, and practice.
