Counselors work in many settings, i.e., schools, institutions of higher education, mental health centers and community service agencies. Place of employment often depends on interests, area of training and specialty area. The master’s degree in Counseling Psychology provides a general program of study, with opportunities for students to explore the professional specialty of counseling psychology through course work on family modalities, group modalities, multicultural applications, and career counseling and development. Students also complete course work in basic psychology which may include courses in human development, psychology of learning, cognition and memory in addition to course work in educational statistics and measurement.
