New Brunswick, NJ -- This year's An Evening of Reflections Event initiated new alumni in a new location and honored past participants with a new tradition.
Held at the President's House of Rurtgers University, the 7th Annual Evening of Reflections gathered together close to 100 SAI alumni, donors and partners. Part of the evening's festivities included the presentation of the program's first annual "Vision Award" to Indira Bailey and Dr. Barbara Trueger.
Bailey is a talented artist and educator from Plainfield, NJ. Her artwork depicts daily life experiences through bright, vibrant paintings and charcoal drawings. One of her most recent collections, entitled “Uhambo”, is based on her experiences traveling through Johannesburg and Capetown. Bailey’s artwork is showcased at her design studio in Newark, NJ
In addition to serving as the Coordinator of Gifted Programs and Teacher of the Gifted in Springfield Public School District, Trueger has worked extensively in South African schools. As a doctoral student, she focused her dissertation on parental involvement in two South African schools - the findings of which encouraged parental involvement in both schools to increase substantially. Dr. Trueger and her D & T Discovery students at Springfield Public School have published a book that depicts life in South Africa.
